Rapid Prototyping (RP) refers to a class of technologies that can automatically construct physical models directly from Computer Aided Design (CAD) data. RP is also called layer-manufacturing technology. Prototype parts and tooling can be produced in a shorter time thereby reducing the lead-time for product development. Different rapid prototyping technologies are commercially available in the market, each with unique capability. Stereo-lithography (SL), Fused Deposition Modeling (RDM), Laminated Object Manufacturing (LOM), Selective Laser Sintering, and Direct Metal Laser Sintering are some of the commonly used Rapid Prototyping technologies. This paper deals with the capabilities of the above technologies with reference to the maximum size of part, surface finish and accuracy. Also, a case study of the injection moulding tool produced by Direct Metal Laser Sintering RP technology is discussed.- Development of Templates for Precision Production Form Grinding
